Description
This course provides training for those who want to specialise in providing recovery orientated mental health services to people experiencing mental illness and psychiatric disability.
You will learn how to implement community based programs and activities with a focus on mental health. This course will help you gain understanding and build practical skills to work in the mental health sector.
Work Placement
As part of the mental health qualification you will need to complete a work placement with 80 hours of work and experience. This will include:
- supporting people during challenges, distress or crisis
- developing, implementing and reviewing a plan for recovery using recovery orientated approaches
- developing and maintaining effective working relationships with care support network
- implementing strategies to de-escalate incidents of risk
- and much more!
Prerequisites
There are no formal entry requirements for persons seeking enrolment into this qualification. A Working with Children Check and Police Check may be required for work in the community service industry as you will be working with vulnerable people.
Pre-enrolment Requirement
A pretraining and Language, Literacy, and Numeracy (LLN) test is required prior to enrolment in this course.

FAQs
Generally the course can be completed within 2-6 months studying full time and 6-12 months studying part time.
A work placement requires students to undertake a certain amount of hours of work in a particular industry or field as part of their study. In the mental health qualification, it is a requirement that 80 hours of work be completed.
We are happy to assist any students with finding a suitable workplace to conduct their work placement.
If you have extensive experience within mental health, you may be eligible for an RPL. Otherwise, we are happy to work with your current employer to get you formally certified
